Over the last few years, Algeria has intensified the liberalisation of its trade with foreign countries. However, the country levies high customs duties on some goods to protect national production. All import and export transactions of goods and services must be domiciled with a bank.
Customs Duties and Taxes on Imports
0%, 5%, 15%, 30% and 60%. For more information, consult the Customs Directorate website.
Customs Classification
The Algerian Customs tariff is applied on the HS nomenclature.
Import Procedures
Customs clearance in Algeria has two focal points:

  1. Custom clearance file including invoice with a bank domiciliation, a copy of company register, a copy of the tax card issued by relevant fiscal authorities: additional documents can be required in case of a specific administrative procedure or a preferential tax regime application
  2. Customs clearance procedure

Importing Samples
Samples can be exported without any control, but they are subject to a customs declaration if they are sent from abroad to Algeria. The country agrees to the ATA carnet agreement, which permits the duty-free and tax-free temporary export and import of goods for up to one year.
