The constitution of Mozambique grants independence to the judiciary system. Nevertheless, undue interference by members of the public administration aimed at directly or indirectly influence the decisions of the courts are still reported.

Sources of the Law and Legal Similarities
Mozambique’s legal system is based on Portuguese civil law and customary law. The main source of the law is the Constitution of 2004. Legislative power is vested in the Assembly of the Republic and the government. Only validly approved and ratified international treaties and agreements can enter into force in Mozambique.
